Here's is where i am with all this: 1) rejected religion long ago as a source of moral guidance - think i will decide for myself, thank you. Also totally reject religious view of the nature of man (creation v. evolution) and the nature of the cosmos (intelligent design vs. ongoing scientific exploration) 2) I then accepted science as the alternative paradigm. Science in my mind has reliable answers (or is developing them), based on evidence, with respect to man and nature. 3) this leaves open the moral question. In my view science has failed us morally to a greater and more wicked extent than all the popes and preachers combined, by producing things such as atomic, biological and chemical weapons, non-biodegradable plastics, pharmaceuticals in the water harming your DNA, etc. Now i am back to square one morally, making it up as i go, because I don't trust either science or religion to lead me or society to a moral future, or any future at all, really. It is up to us as citizens of the world to achieve a just, reasonable and sustainable civilization.
