Oriya Abhinay : Champu : This is based on an Oriya poem. Oriya is the language of the people of Orissa. This poem belongs to a genre called 'Champu'. In this genre the poet has written poems to each letter of the alphabet and the fascinating point is that each verse or stanza of the poem starts with the same alphabet. This particular poem starts with the alphabet 'L'.It describes Radha's plight when Krsna hides her saree and refuses to give it back to her.She pleads with him, saying,My dear Krsna, please give back my saare which you have hidden, I feel shy without it. You are the lord & love of my life & heart. But if people see me like this, they will laugh & gossip, which will bring bad name on both of us.I promise you a thousand time to return but before I go please dress me up & redecorate me before anybody sees me like this.Make my disheveled hair & put flowers in them, draw back my kumkum tilak on my forehead . Please my dear Krsna get me ready soon & let me go.Finally Lord Krishna gives his beloved Radha her saree. She drapes it on herself and goes away with a shy smile.
