Description: This 30-second PSA created by The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), is the first in a series that will raise awareness of human rights in Israel and abroad, starting the week of December 7 - 11, 2008, in recognition of the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It pictures diverse portraits of people, each sitting against a featureless black background, and pulling a chain to turn on a light, as they state their individual rights. In different languages they make these statements- I have the right to Freedom of Information, I have the right to Equality, I have the Right to Safe Refuge, and We have the right to Adequate Housing. The sound of the light switch clicks on as the final message appears. Shining the Light, appears on black - but changes to a white as the message continues - On Human Rights. Background:From November 9th - November 30th, 2008, Barefoot Workshops led a three-week program in Tel Aviv, teaching Israeli organizations how to write, shoot, produce, and edit, Public Service Announcements (PSAs), to raise awareness about important social issues. Nine PSAs were produced on such topics as: human rights, sexual education for teens through the Internet, bridging Jewish and Arab-Israeli youths through the arts, equal opportunity for Ethiopian Jews, building the capacity of nonprofits, and supporting women-owned businesses in Israel.The aim of the workshop was to foster greater civic participation, activism, and debate by teaching civil society organizations how to create messages that can improve their societies from within.
